The students, accompanied by their teachers, were welcomed by the Mourjan Marinas- Lusail City team, which provided an overview of the marina’s rules, regulations and operations, and emphasized on marinas’ environmental consciousness with reference to the floating mangroves project underway at the marina.

Mourjan Marinas Supports the Growth of the Marine IndustryIMG_1811

Mourjan Marinas, represented by its General Manager Wayne Shepherd, has participated in the internationally renowned Advanced Marina Management (AMM) program, that was presented by British Marine, in association with the Marina Industries Association and Global Marina Institute, which took place in Dubai earlier this month.

The profit-management training course is designed for senior marina professionals, and is internationally recognised. The 5 day course included representatives from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Bahrain, Seychelles, Italy and the UK.

Mourjan Marinas – Lusail City hosts Qatar TV for mangroves documentaryIMG_0918

Mourjan Marinas – Lusail City, Doha’s premier yachting destination, showcased the success of its floating mangroves project, when hosting Qatar TV as part of special documentary shooting. The documentary is expected to air in late February and will be shared across social media.

Mourjan Marinas – Lusail City launched the project in 2012 together with UNESCO and Lusail City to monitor the use of mangroves for capturing carbon emissions, or sequestration, helping to reduce atmospheric carbon levels. Since its launch, the project continues to capture international attention from the science and environmental communities as mangroves also provide a safe, sheltered home for hundreds of birds and marine species, which aids biodiversity and helps to increase fish stock​s.

Mourjan Marinas – Lusail City, Doha’s premier yachting destination, is fast becoming the chosen home-port for marine operators to operate their activities, with three commercial operators now on board; Almargan Tours, Blue Marine and Doha Yachting.

Almargan Tours is a yacht chartering company in Qatar which provides luxury boats and yachts for cruising. The company offers a selection of yachts in Doha with three boats ranging in size from 33 ft to 55 ft for hourly and daily charter, further enhancing the marina’s offering for visitors.

Blue Marine offers a full line-up of water sports activities from Mourjan Marinas – Lusail City in a bid to make water-based sports more accessible to the local community. Visitors are able to try a variety of water sports including wake boarding, fly boarding, jet skiing, jet packing, hover boarding, kite surfing, water skiing, kayaking, towables, yacht charter, dhow trips and fishing trips.

Almouj Marina Leads Eco Initiative to Transform Litter to Art

images/dsc_0167.jpgThe award-winning environmentally-friendly Almouj Marina took part in the Daymaniyat Islands clean-up event, one of a series of ongoing eco-conscious activities. The important initiative, conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs and the local green SME, Plasbin, attracted over 30 volunteers and aimed to rid the islands of litter and debris by transforming them to pieces of art. 

"The Daymaniyat Islands are justly famous for their beautiful beaches and their vibrant marine life," commented Khalil AbuJaber, Marina Manager of Almouj Marina. "Unfortunately, the Islands and their waters are filled with items that do not belong there - plastics, metals, rubber, paper, textiles, derelict fishing gear. This impacts not only the attractiveness of the area, but also the aquatic environment and marine life. We are honoured to take part in an initiative that preserves and protects the marine eco-system and natural beauty, as well as promotes responsible marine tourism.

Integrating sustainable practices into its day-to-day operations, Almouj Marina at The Wave, Muscat in Oman has teamed-up with researchers from Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), Oman’s only public university, in a unique project to develop technologically enhanced, nontoxic coatings to be used on boats, submerged structures and industry equipment.

Centered on nanotechnology, the study aims to identify environmentally friendly methods that can reduce the impact of biofouling on waterways, marine life, maintenance costs and fuel consumption.

As the marine industry moves into another phase of growth in the Middle East, Wayne Shepherd, General Manager of the Dubai-based Mourjan Marinas, has called on owners to take a “pragmatic and phased approach” to marina development.

“In recent years, we’ve observed an increased interest in waterfront developments across the Middle East, which is encouraging for the continuing growth of the marine industry as a whole, said Shepherd. With a number of new marina projects currently underway in the region, we envisage this trend to continue.However, we see developers and marina owners moving into a more pragmatic approach in developing marinas through a phased approach to meet the market requirements.”
